HVAC Overflow — Ceiling Repair
The Situation
An HVAC unit overflow saturated a living room ceiling, requiring immediate mitigation. After the area was dried and rough cuts were made by the mitigation crew, the homeowner needed a restoration that went beyond a basic patch—a clean, solid repair done right the first time.
Technical Process
- Mitigation cuts squared and corrected for a structurally sound layout
- RockSplicer backing installed to create a recessed, factory-style joint
- Rockwool insulation added to the cavity for thermal and acoustic performance—a practical choice given the proximity to the HVAC unit
- 1/2" MR (Moisture Resistant) drywall installed as added protection given the area’s history
- Finished with QuickSet 5 and dustless sanding to maintain a clean environment
- Primed with Sherwin-Williams ProBlock, then one coat ceiling paint on the repair area
- Two full coats applied throughout the living room and kitchen for a uniform, refreshed finish
- Cased opening scraped, sanded, skimmed, primed, and painted with 2 coats Emerald Urethane Enamel with DAP Extreme Stretch at transitions
Why RockSplicer
Standard butt joints in drywall sit slightly raised, requiring wide feathering to blend. RockSplicer eliminates that by creating a recessed joint that finishes flat—similar to factory-tapered edges.
