An HVAC unit overflow saturated a living room ceiling, requiring immediate mitigation. After the area was dried and rough cuts were made by the mitigation crew, the homeowner needed a restoration that went beyond a basic patch—a clean, solid repair done right the first time.

Why RockSplicer

Standard butt joints in drywall sit slightly raised, requiring wide feathering to blend. RockSplicer eliminates that by creating a recessed joint that finishes flat—similar to factory-tapered edges. The result is a stronger panel, a tighter blend, and fewer ridges. When the opportunity presents itself, we use it because a better joint means a better finish.

A homeowner recently relocated from New Jersey needed a comprehensive interior update. The project had to be executed in scattered phases—each portion fully prepped, protected, completed, cleaned, and re-prepped again before moving to the next stage to accommodate their move-in schedule.

Modern Upgrades

Removed all dated gold/brass hardware and installed new matte black hinges, fixtures, and lighting throughout—including replacing the chandelier and sunroom fixtures.

The Challenge

A newer construction home in The Overlook community was showing typical settling issues throughout—cracked tape seams, nail pops, corner bead damage, and crown separation across multiple rooms. The homeowner wanted every room addressed in one visit rather than chasing individual repairs over time.

Scope of Work

• Foyer & Stairwell: Corner bead repair, tape seams on landing, angle repairs on front door walls
• Bedrooms (4): Nail pops, corner tape seams, crown caulk, closet repairs, light switch area patches

Finish

All repairs were primed, sealed, and painted using Sherwin-Williams Rock Candy (SW-6231) and City Loft on walls. The result: every room in the house looks like it was just built—without the settling cracks that come with new construction.

The Challenge

A repeat customer who previously had us remove popcorn from both bathrooms, the laundry/utility room, and the living room/kitchen called us back to finish off the last 3 bedrooms. The goal: get the entire home popcorn-free.

The Result

Three bedrooms went from dated popcorn texture to smooth, modern ceilings ready for the homeowner to paint the walls themselves. The Festool dustless sanding system kept the mess contained—no dust throughout the rest of the home.

The Project

Paint work for a bathroom remodel in Millsboro. The homeowner chose Alabaster (SW-7008) as the primary color—a warm, versatile white that works well in both natural and artificial light.

The Project

The Project

The Project

The Project

Not all popcorn is created equal. This ceiling had been painted over with a satin finish, which meant the standard wet-and-scrape method only went so far. It ended up having to be dry scraped with a 3" drywall knife—slow, tedious work, but the only way to get it done right.

The Project

A previous drywall repair in this condo consisted of slapping up a vent rather than patching the hole, which led to warm air going straight into the duct chase—creating condensation that damaged the surrounding drywall. The ceiling was removed, the trunk was wrapped, and new drywall was installed with entryways sealed to prevent warm air from getting in.

The Project

This Bethany Beach exterior painting project was completed across two visits at the homeowner’s request. The initial visit covered the majority of the exterior trim and the foundation after surface cleaning. We returned in May 2024 to paint the gables and cornice at the peak, along with the porch area, completing the remaining exterior details the homeowner wanted addressed.

The Project

Existing ceiling repairs at this Salt Pond home had been started with mesh tape and pre-mixed compound. The affected seams were rebuilt by locating the framing, securing the drywall, removing the failed repair material, and creating a broader, level finish across the repair areas. Water stains were sealed before the ceiling received its final paint finish.

Repair Process

• Located framing through the repair areas and added screws to secure the drywall
• Cut out failed seams and removed the existing mesh-tape repair material
• Prefilled with quick-set, then taped with FibaFuse and all-purpose joint compound
• Applied a level coat of 5-minute quick-set using a 24-inch Level 5 skimming blade

The Project

A previous contractor had installed the drywall backward, leaving visible seams and uneven wall areas. Full removal and correct reinstallation would have been the more complete corrective option. After already paying for the earlier work, however, the homeowner chose a repair-focused path to improve the appearance without taking on the added cost of demolition and replacement. KD Drywall N Paint was called in to locate framing, secure the board, rebuild the affected seams, and create a smooth, level finish before repainting the affected areas.

Correction & Finish Process

• Located and marked studs, uneven areas, and visible or damaged tape seams

The Project

The Diagnosis

This upper wall repair had been addressed at least two or three times before. Once the old layers of mesh tape and compound were opened, the underlying issue became clear: the crack ran through the drywall sheet itself, not simply along a failed seam. That distinction changed the repair plan.

Why the Cause Matters

Covering a visible crack without identifying what is underneath can leave the real issue in place. For this project, the repair began by exposing the full break, securing the affected area, and rebuilding the damaged section instead of adding another surface patch over the previous repairs.

Corrective Work

The Situation

A roof leak had damaged a ceiling tape seam. The project also included treating smoke staining above the stove so the repaired ceiling could be properly prepared and refinished.

Room-Specific Color

The bathroom was finished in Sherwin-Williams Emerald Sea Salt, Matte. The front living room’s batten accent wall received Emerald Jade Dragon in a Flat finish, and the interior face of the front door was finished in Emerald Urethane Enamel Salty Dog, Satin.

Containment & Preparation

The living area was carefully protected before removal work began, using overlapping 4-mil plastic on the floor and pre-taped masking film across the walls and furnishings.

Ceiling Restoration

• Existing popcorn texture scraped from the ceiling
• Surface primed and sealed with Loxon, with attention to adhesion before the finish work
• Skim work completed as needed using Plus 3 joint compound
• Sanded, then primed and sealed with Zinsser

Final Detail Work

The wall-to-ceiling edges were cut in by brush and mini roller using a matched Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint Satin finish, keeping the transition clean around the newly refinished ceiling.

The Call

The homeowner called KD Drywall N Paint after becoming uncomfortable with portions of drywall work that had been started by another contractor. The documented conditions included improperly installed metal corner bead, mesh tape under premixed compound, extensive paper tape, and rough finish areas.

Correction Work

• Located mesh tape cut out and replaced with FibaFuse MAX
• Existing corner bead removed and replaced with Trim-Tex Fast Edge 3.75"
• Angles feathered to approximately 6 inches and selected flat joints brought out to approximately 24 inches to smooth the finish
• Completed work sanded smooth, then primed and sealed before paint

Interior Finish

The walls received two coats of Sherwin-Williams Emerald in Accessible Beige (SW 7036), Matte. Ceilings were finished in Sherwin-Williams Premium Ceiling Paint, Flat White. Cutwork was completed before rolling to keep the 18-inch Arrowworth microfiber roller clear of debris during the finish coats.

What Was Found

Multiple repair areas had mesh applied over paper, while the earlier damage underneath had not been properly addressed. The visible cracking and failed layers needed to be opened rather than simply covered again.

Repair Process

• Failed repair areas cut out
• Drywall secured before rebuilding the repair
• Areas prefilled and taped with FibaFuse MAX
• Festool used for dustless/minimal-dust sanding
• All repairs primed and sealed with Sherwin-Williams Prep-Rite ProBlock

Matched Finish

The repaired areas were painted to match the existing Sherwin-Williams Knitting Needles and Sea Salt finishes, restoring the entry and adjoining wall areas without changing the homeowner’s established color plan.

Why Replacement Made Sense

The existing 3/8-inch ceiling drywall had served the home for about 25 years before beginning to sag. Rather than trying to finish over a compromised ceiling surface, the room was prepared and protected, then the existing drywall was carefully removed.

New Ceiling System

• New 1/2-inch drywall glued and screwed in place
• Joints taped with FibaFuse
• Trim-Tex Fast Edge used at the off angles
• Trim-Tex Buttboard installed at butt joints, allowing those joints to be finished within approximately 12 inches
• Festool dustless sanding used to keep the contained mess to a minimum

Prime & Paint

The new ceiling was primed and finished with two coats of Sherwin-Williams Premium Ceiling Paint. The final photos in the original post were taken while the finish was still drying.

Repair & Preparation

A section of deck board was replaced before the finish work began. Deck cleaner was applied, rinsed, and pressure washed to remove loose paint or stain and surface debris. The deck was then allowed to dry for a day; the source post recorded a moisture-content reading of 16 before the SuperDeck finish was applied.

Coating Process

• All spindles received one sprayed coat using a Graco QuickShot
• Railings and deck boards received two rolled coats
• Most deck boards received a third coat after the project photos and videos were taken

Finished Exterior Details

The completed coating brought the board replacement, railings, spindles, stairs, and surrounding deck surfaces into one consistent finish while retaining the original character of the cottage exterior.

Previous water-damaged material had been torn out and treated. Once the exterior repairs were complete, the opened wall and ceiling areas were ready for the interior reconstruction work.

Coordinated Final Finish

KD Drywall N Paint completed the repair and documented primer/sealer stages. Final painting was completed by a separate crew, keeping the scope clear between the repair work and the final paint work.

From Knockdown to Smooth Walls

The customer wanted smooth walls in place of the existing knockdown texture throughout the condo. The work began with paper protection and a few seam repairs taped with FibaFuse.

Bedroom Ceiling Detail

Peeling areas of the bedroom popcorn ceiling received matching texture. The ceiling was then painted with two coats of Sherwin-Williams Premium Ceiling Paint.

Documented Work Sequence

The photo sequence begins with full floor protection in place while the garage wall and ceiling surfaces were in the preparation stage. Later views document the completed white wall and ceiling surfaces across the garage.

Garage Details

The images document the finished surfaces around the garage doors, openers, electrical panels, utility equipment, concrete floor, and interior access door.

The final photographs show the garage from several angles, including broad wall and ceiling views with both garage doors open and closed.

Repair Work Throughout

The project included extensive drywall repairs throughout the home, along with repair of minor water damage. All repairs were completed with FibaFuse and Quick-Set 5 before the documented primer/sealer and paint stages.

Feature Wall

The feature wall was painted in Renwick Heather (SW 2818) using Sherwin-Williams Emerald Designer Edition in eggshell.

Repair Count

This repair project addressed 36 seams, 9 corner-bead repairs, and 13 nail pops throughout the documented area.

Primer & Sealer

Documented Finish

Two coats of Sherwin-Williams Emerald were applied in Holly Glen (SW 9678) with a flat finish.

Drywall Installation

Existing siding was removed, then new drywall was installed with glue and screws. Tear-away L-bead was installed at the ceiling and floor and around the door casings and trim.

Taping & Finishing

• All seams taped with FibaFuse
• Tape coat completed with USG all-purpose joint compound
• Finishing completed with Quick-Set 5 after the tape coat dried
• Festool dustless sanding completed

Primer & Paint

Surfaces were primed and sealed with Zinsser, then finished with two eggshell coats of Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace (OC-65).

Documented Deck Finish

This deck was finished with Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck Solid Color Stain in Waterloo (SW 9141).

Documented Condition

This project addressed a wood sunroom ceiling after documented soft-wash-related damage. The existing condition limited how far the ceiling could be sanded.

Restoration & Stain Finish

The wood ceiling was sanded down and finished with Sherwin-Williams WoodScapes Poly Semi-Transparent in Crossroads (SW 3521).

Containment & Material Removal

After water damage from the unit above went initially unnoticed until mold appeared, a containment area was created with 6-mil plastic and the affected ductwork was sealed. The water heater was disconnected, and affected materials were removed 24 inches beyond the visible damage.

Documented Remediation Steps

• HEPA air scrubber installed during the process and left in operation for 48 hours after cleanup
• HEPA vacuuming, hand-cleaning with a biocide, then a second vacuuming
• ULV fogging applied before containment was removed and final cleanup was completed

Reconstruction & Paint

After demolition and remediation, new drywall was installed, taped and finished, dustless sanded, and primed and sealed. Two Sherwin-Williams coats were then applied to match the existing color.

Primer & Sealer

Surfaces were primed and sealed with Sherwin-Williams White Pigmented Shellac Primer.

Documented Finish

Two eggshell coats of Sherwin-Williams Emerald Designer Edition were applied in Aquaverde (SW 9051).

Protection, Removal & Rebuild

The work area was covered and protected with Trimaco Stay Put surface protector and Plazmask plastic. Crown, approximately 30 square feet of drywall, and insulation were removed; joists were cleaned; then new insulation and 1/2-inch glued-and-screwed drywall were installed.

Drywall Finish & Paint

• FibaFuse and Quick-Set tape and finish work, followed by dustless sanding and primer/sealer
• Two Sherwin-Williams Premium Ceiling Paint coats across the entire ceiling
• Wall water stains sealed with Zinsser B-I-N Shellac, then two Sherwin-Williams color-matched wall coats
• Two Ivory crown coats in Sherwin-Williams Duration Semi-Gloss

Completion Work

A new return vent was installed, the banister was reattached, and minor downstairs repairs, painting, and cleanup were completed.

Removal, Cleaning & Rebuild

Crown molding was removed and the popcorn ceiling was scraped. The ceiling was primed and sealed with Zinsser B-I-N Shellac; documented damaged drywall and insulation were removed; joists were cleaned with an antimicrobial; and Rockwool insulation was installed.

Ceiling Restoration

• New drywall taped and finished with FibaFuse and Quick-Set
• Lightweight pre-mix skim coat and dustless sanding
• Ceiling and walls primed and sealed with Sherwin-Williams Prep-Rite ProBlock
• Two Sherwin-Williams Premium Ceiling Paint coats on the ceiling
• Two wall coats in Aleutian (SW 6241)

Refresh Work

Fresh paint and drywall repair were completed for an upcoming rental.

Water Damage & Older Repair Correction

Existing drywall and insulation were removed. Joists were cleaned with ShockWave Antimicrobial Cleaner, new R-13 insulation was installed, and 1/2-inch moisture-resistant drywall was installed. Older first-floor repairs were redone with FibaFuse and Quick-Set 5, then dustless sanded.

Ceiling & Wall Finish

• Water stains sealed with Zinsser B-I-N Shellac
• Ceiling and affected walls primed and sealed with Sherwin-Williams Prep-Rite ProBlock
• Two Sherwin-Williams Premium Ceiling Paint coats on both ceiling sections
• Wall touch-ups completed to match

Trim Restoration

Areas with nail-head bleed-through and prior paint/repair failures were sanded to raw wood, primed, recoated where needed, and treated with wood filler. A second primer coat followed, trim-to-wall gaps were sealed with Sashco Big Stretch Clear, and the trim was sanded again before receiving two Benjamin Moore Advance Semi-Gloss coats.

Structural Updates

The soffit was removed from the ceiling of a space that was originally a sunroom, and Rockwool insulation was added to the cavity before drywall installation.

• 1/2-inch drywall installed
• Trim-Tex Butt Board used during drywall installation
• All joints taped with FibaFuse Max

Wallpaper Removal & Preparation

Wallpaper was removed. Sherwin-Williams PrimeRx Peel Bonding Primer was applied, and the walls were skimmed as needed.

Preparation & Support

The work area was prepped and protected. Studs were located and secured, and the surface was locked with GARDZ before the repair was finished.

After Prior Plumbing Access

The drywall had been previously opened to access plumbing. Damaged drywall was cut back square, GARDZ was applied to the water-damaged ceiling area, insulation was installed as needed, and new drywall was installed.

• One coat over the affected area and one coat across the entire wall for a uniform finish

The doors were sanded, caulked, and wiped clean, then primed with Zinsser Cover Stain Oil.

• Doors: two satin coats of Benjamin Moore Aura in Bird’s Egg (2051-60)
• Casing: two coats of Benjamin Moore Element Guard in Extra White, Soft Gloss

Documented Paint System

The kitchen cabinets received Benjamin Moore INSL-X STIX Bonding Primer, followed by Benjamin Moore Scuff-X in Satin White.
